The Pigeon

Above the river bent over neat rail

I’m leaning on & “you’ve got to move,”

this guy says, all gums, and rolls a cigarette

one handed. “what are you doing?”

& no reason I tell him. I’m on the phone, too.

People always disturb me. Library rising

from the horizon and spin: all see the dead blocks

and almond-loafer feet of pedestrians. Still,

I worry about my cats who are with me

in my ears and dirty in their own. Sly brunette

and short, too, using her own pockets

more sexually than the situation calls for

Would you care? she walks by.
